Pictures of Yellow Birds at Rockefeller State Park Preserve

This gallery features many species of yellow birds found at Rockefeller State Park Preserve including the common yellowthroat, american goldfinch, palm warbler, yellow warbler, northern parula, and balltimore oriole. All of these birds except the goldfinch migrate through the park on their way to their summer and winter homes so there’s not a lot of time to take their pictures. While goldfinches are in the park year-round, they are much scarcer in the late fall to early spring, and they have a winter plumage, which makes them a bit difficult to see.

While these birds are found in many places in the park, I’ve had good luck on the Farm to Meadow Trail, Overlook Trail, Ash Tree Loop, Canter Alley, and the Barnyard Hill Trails. The warblers are a bit difficult to find since they can stay high in the trees when migrating. Keep watch in the dense bushes as they search for food, and you may be able to photograph them when they land on one of the outer branches. I’ve found that palm warblers often stay by the side of the trails, especially on the Barnyard Hill Trail, landing on the fences and fence posts as you walk by. Be quick! They don’t hang around long!
